I don’t know what I did to anger it, but it looks like its either screaming at me or wants to eat my face off.

Kind of reminds me of the first gen Kodiak/TopKick with grilles that consumed the entire face of the truck:

I honestly didn’t think Lexis/Toyota grills could get any uglier, but life fou nd a way.

So I definitely thought this was an exaggerated photoshop at first...

Nope. At some point I’m going to have to measure the actual front area. Everything behind the from 1/8 is actually very nice.

Not that these are bad, just maybe not the right look for an Avalon.
![]() 09/24/2018 at 19:02 |

Why Toyota do that? (Little known fact, Toyota had to buy up the world’s entire supply of baleen to ensure production of the new Avalon.)

That’s what’s both perplexing and infuriating, its an attractive car otherwise, and the interior is probably superbly fitted together as is Toyota’s wont, but why did they have to do that to the grille?

If it was an EDM car... where would the front number plate go?

Like, I get huge grills in supercars and trucks... but this car has, what, a V6? Plus, did they just say “Screw you, states with front plate requirements"

“Toyota always plays it too safe and is afraid to give us anything exci-”
“GIVE IT A GIANT FUCKING GRILLE ”

Whole lotta burgers could be put on that grille.

T his would genuinely make me cross off the Avalon (Hybrid) from my list and go for Lexus ES300H .
On the other hand, the case for used 2016 or so Avalon Hybrid became much stronger.

My FIL has one and it’s quite a pretty, nice, and comfy car.

Toyota in the 2010s: masters in faux aggressively styled cars for the Walter Mitty personality.

I thought the exact same thing.

I’ll measure it out.

Avalon drive. Never come back.

Speaking of Avalon drive, it’s drives extremely nice.

Most of that isn’t actually active grille area, and my guess is that the front plate blocks absolutely nothing other than breaking up the vast expanse of grille.
And that particular one is a 4-cylinder hybrid, so even lower cooling requirements than the V6.

But they don’t make aesthetic accommodations for the plate, like bmw does by separating the kidney grilles from the lower air intakes (which actually do more work since the kidney grilles are often shut)
